Author David Grasse will talk about Commodore Perry Owens, the subject of his book The True, Untold Story of Commodore Perry Owens; a Sheriff of the Arizona Territory.
The Book: It took a special breed of lawman to step up and confront the bad men of the late 19th century. Such a man was Apache County Sheriff Commodore Perry Owens. Quiet, enigmatic, small in stature and quirky in personality-yet undeniably brave. Owens tamed northeastern Arizona Territory by using oftentimes violent measure to counter the lawlessness and violence of the badmen. C.P. Owens was largely overlooked by historians until David Grasse invested years uncovering the fascinating, true tale of his life and deeds. In the pages of Grasse’s book you are treated to the biography of Owens along with a full cast of contemporary Western characters, both good and bad. This is the first time his complete story has appeared in print.
The Author: David Grasse is a third-generation Arizonian, born in the town of Casa Grande. He received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of Arizona and his masters in library and information sciences from the same institution. He is a member of the Arizona Historical Society, the Territorial Troupers reenactment group, and the Tucson Steampunk Society.
