Lucy Watson, the daughter of a saloon keeper. Takes a job as a welfare instructor after her mother’s death.  She travels to the remote Mogollon Rim country of central Arizona to teach home and social skills to the isolated pioneers.  After overcoming their natural suspicions, she learns more than they do, especially through her connection to Edd Denmeade, the bee hunter.  She learns their secrets and finds love in the wilderness.
